Asia and the Pacific has become a major beneficiary of deepening global value chains by embracing open trade and investment regimes and strengthening international economic cooperation. However, the global trade and investment environment now faces growing headwinds, including geopolitical tensions, rising protectionism, and heightened risks from natural hazards, pandemics, and other shocks. Strengthening cross-border economic cooperation within the region, and between Asia and Europe, is critical to building future resilience and mitigating the negative impacts of external shocks.
