The Pinacoteca di Brera, officially founded in 1809, traces its origin to a divers and educational collection established in 1776. Initially created alongside the Accademia di Belle Arti by Empress Maria Theresa of Austria, the collection was intended to provide students with the invaluable opportunity to study great masterpiece of art up close.
